Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka speaks during the launch of his presidential campaign platform/HANDOUT

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has explained why his fellow United Alternative Government co-principals were absent during the launch of his presidential campaign platform.

The Wiper leader dismissed speculation of divisions within the opposition alliance.

Speaking during the unveiling of his flagship presidential agenda, Kalonzo said he deliberately chose not to invite fellow co-principals Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang'i and Martha Karua as he wanted first to establish and launch his own campaign platform before bringing them together for future engagements.

The Wiper leader used the occasion to reassure supporters that the opposition coalition remains united and focused on its mission of challenging President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“Allow me to salute my co-principals in the United Alternative Government and to thank them sincerely for standing together as a strong team which has sworn to stand with Kenyans,” Kalonzo said.

He added: “This team, I can assure you, will stand together until we liberate this country.”

Kalonzo revealed that he had considered inviting the three leaders to the launch but ultimately decided against it for strategic reasons.

“I actually had to debate on whether to invite them, Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang'i and Martha Karua, but I said maybe when I have sorted this issue of the flagship. But for now, I know they are all watching,” he said.

The former Vice President described the opposition team as a formidable political force and dismissed claims that differences among its leaders could derail its plans ahead of the next General Election.

“It is a wonderful team. We know that the Kenya Kwanza administration's only hope is that the United Alternative Government will split,” he said.

Kalonzo argued that the coalition's strength lies in its unity and common objective of offering Kenyans an alternative leadership vision.

According to him, attempts to portray cracks within the alliance are aimed at weakening the opposition's growing influence across the country.

“Without any split, I can assure you that William Ruto is a one-term president,” Kalonzo declared to applause from supporters.

His remarks come amid heightened political activity and growing speculation over how opposition leaders will approach the 2027 presidential race.

While each of the coalition principals has continued to build individual political profiles, they have repeatedly maintained that they remain committed to working together under the United Alternative Government umbrella.

The launch of Kalonzo's presidential platform marks the latest step in preparations for the 2027 contest, with the Wiper leader positioning himself as a key challenger to Ruto while emphasising that opposition unity will be critical in determining the outcome of the election.
