A police officer attached to a Member of Parliament has been found dead in his rented house in Kasarani, Nairobi, in an incident police are treating as suspected suicide.
The officer, a police constable attached to the Diplomatic Police Unit, was discovered dead on Tuesday afternoon inside his bedsitter in a building near a private school within Kasarani Sub-County.
According to a police report, members of the public alerted authorities after hearing a loud bang from the building at about 2.30pm.
Concerned residents checked on the source of the noise and found the officer unresponsive inside his house.
The incident was reported to Kasarani Police Station at about 2.50pm, prompting officers from the station, detectives and crime scene investigators to visit the scene.
Police said the house had been locked from the inside, forcing officers to gain entry before discovering the officer's body.
Investigators recovered the officer's service firearm at the scene and documented the area as part of ongoing enquiries.
A certificate identifying the deceased as an officer attached to the Diplomatic Police Unit and assigned to a legislator was also recovered.
The body was moved to a mortuary, where a postmortem is expected to be conducted as part of investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The incident comes just days after another police officer was found dead in a separate suspected suicide case in Athi River, Machakos County.
Police have launched investigations into the latest incident.
