Aspirant faces hostile reception after declaring bid to unseat MP Silvanus Osoro

An aspiring parliamentary candidate seeking to unseat South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro faced a hostile reception from a section of residents during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) rally in Kisii County.

The female aspirant was addressing residents during President William Ruto’s tour of the region when she publicly declared her intention to challenge Osoro for the parliamentary seat.

Her announcement, however, was met with loud disapproval from parts of the crowd, who heckled her as she made her case.

Addressing the President, the aspirant argued that the constituency needed new leadership, suggesting that Osoro had served long enough in the position.

“Honorable president, these people are saying that the honourable MP has sat in this seat for too long,” she said.

Despite interruptions from the crowd, she stood her ground, insisting that there was growing sentiment for the MP to seek a different political position.

She proposed that Osoro should consider vying for the Kisii senatorial seat instead, saying this would open space for new leadership in the constituency.

“The people are asking if he could vie for the Senate because he has been in this seat for too long,” she added.

The aspirant also raised concerns about representation, claiming that the UDA party has not secured a position at the county level since the onset of devolution.

“Since devolution started, we have not had a representative in the county,” she said.

She expressed confidence in her bid, telling the gathering that she was ready to face off with other contenders if given the opportunity.

“He should leave it for me to battle with these other men, and I will bring the seat in the morning,” she said.

Osoro, who is serving his second term as MP, was elected on a UDA ticket and currently serves as the Majority Party Whip in the National Assembly.
