
A police officer is fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked and seriously wounded while on duty at the Vihiga County Assembly.
He was also robbed of his G3 rifle after the attack on January 14,
police said, adding the weapon had 20 bullets.
The victim was on guard at gate A at the County Assembly when he was
attacked by unknown people.
He sustained a deep cut on the head. He was found lying in a pool
of blood after the incident with the weapon missing.
Police said his colleagues heard him scream and rushed to the scene, only
to find him lying in a pool of blood.
He was rushed to the hospital and admitted in a serious but stable
condition, police said.
Police said they were investigating the attack with an aim of recovering
the stolen weapon and ensuring justice for their colleague.
Elsewhere in Matunda, Kakamega County, a man identified as Bernard Kadara, 44, was found
dead in his compound after suspected murder.
The body had injuries on the back of his neck, and blood was oozing from
his ears, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an
autopsy.
The motive of the murder was not immediately established, police said.
In Masogo area, Kisumu County, a man aged 50 was found dead on a feeder
road after a suspected murder.
The deceased was identified as Hezron Otieno and the incident happened in
Rangombe village, police said.
The motive of the murder was not established. The body of the man was
moved to a local mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
In a different incident, a 40-year-old man died in a borehole as he rescued a colleague who
had been trapped therein while cleaning the well in Mayanja village, Bungoma
County.
Police and locals said Edward Naliakho had gone into the 50-foot borehole
to rescue a colleague who had been trapped there.
The colleague had ventured into the borehole to remove trash that was
dirtying the water. According to the police and locals, Naliakho managed to
rescue the colleague.
However, as he was struggling to come out, he fell back into the water
and was trapped. This was after he complained he would not breathe.
His body was later removed by the fire brigade from the county and moved to
the mortuary for other procedures, police said.
In Holo, Kisumu County, a man was found dead on the roadside after an
attack.
Police said they were informed that the body of the man was lying at the scene
with wounds on the head.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other
procedures.
Police say murder incidents have been on the rise amid efforts to address
them. Most of the incidents are linked to land disputes, love triangles and
money.
There are dozens of cases that are pending unsolved for now, police said.
Others are pending in various courts in the country.
