On the Radar

President William Ruto will witness contract signing for Matuga Clinker Line, Nairobi County.

The event will take place at 9 am at State House, Nairobi.

The project in Kwale aims for raw material self-sufficiency for Bamburi's cement production, reducing reliance on expensive imports and lowering production costs.

Exploration and prospecting for shale (a key raw material) have been underway since at least 2018, and the project is in the development phase, with land acquisition processes being discussed with local leadership.

This development is part of a broader trend in Kenya's cement industry to increase local clinker production capacity and reduce the country's dependence on imports.

Kindiki to chair drought consultative forum with development partners

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki will chair a consultative forum with development partners and other humanitarian institutions on the current drought crisis.

The meeting will seek to establish a comprehensive programme on interventions to assist 2.1 million people in 32 Counties facing acute food shortages.

On Monday, Kindiki convened a high-level meeting with senior government officials to assess the severity of the ongoing drought.

The meeting sought to determine the scale and cost of interventions required to save lives and protect livestock across affected regions.

Held at his Harambee Annex office, the meeting brought together Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Chief Executive Officers and heads of key Ministries, Departments and Agencies, alongside representatives of the Council of Governors.

Data from the Kenya Meteorological Department indicates that the affected counties will require sustained human and livestock food assistance, nutrition support and health interventions for at least the next six months.
