A police officer was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a reveller in an altercation in a bar in Kenyenya, Kisii county, police and witnesses said.

The incident happened on Friday December 12, 2025, night, police said.

The deceased was shot and killed at a bar where he and others were enjoying themselves at Magena Shopping Centre.

He died instantly after the bullet went through his head.

Police visited the scene and found the body of Moses Okeyo, 28 in a pool of blood in the bar minutes after his shooting at about 11 pm.


The bullet entered through the back of his head and exited through the top of his left eye, police said.

Okeyo worked at Riokindo Girls Secondary School in the area offering exhaustion services.

Locals said he offered specialised waste management for emptying and cleaning septic tanks and pit latrines at the school.

Witnesses said he was having drinks with his friends at the bar when he differed with a police officer attached to Critical Infrastructure Police Unit at headquarters in Nairobi.

The officer reached out his Berretta pistol, which he used to shoot the deceased in the head at close range, witnesses said.

Other revellers present scampered for their safety before regrouping and cornering the officer and stoning him.

He was later rescued by police who rushed to the scene with serious injuries. He was admitted to the hospital under police guard.
His pistol with 14 bullets was recovered from the public and kept by the local police.

Police said they recovered a spent cartridge at the scene. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Police termed the incident isolated and added it is under probe.

Elsewhere in Nyahururu Town, a tout was stabbed and killed in an altercation with a fellow tout.

The incident happened after the two disagreed over money on Friday evening at a bus stop.

The deceased was stabbed on the left side of his neck above the ear. Police said the assailant escaped the scene after the incident.

The deceased was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital where the body was preserved pending an autopsy and other procedures.

The hunt for the assailant went on Saturday, police said. 

In a different incident, a driver and his co-driver died in an accident in Kikuyu, Kiambu county.

Police said the accident happened Saturday dawn along the Southern Bypass near Thogotho area.

The Mercedes trailer, which was headed for Mombasa Road direction veered off the road, prompting the driver and his co-driver to jump out in an attempt to escape the same.

They both sustained fatal injuries. Police said they died on the spot. The lorry moved for about 400 metres, destroying the pavement before it stalled.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, while the lorry was towed to a local police station. Police said they were investigating the incident.
