Two men were killed by a hippopotamus in an incident at Bumbe beach, Busia county.

One body was recovered immediately after the incident, while the second one was recovered a day later, police said.

The men were on a boat in the area when the animal struck, forcing it to capsize on Monday, December 8, 2025.

The beach is part of Lake Victoria. The body of one Harry Bwire was retrieved hours later by a team of officials from the Kenya Coast Guard.

The second body of John Kennedy, 38, was found on Tuesday, police said.

This was after a two-day search.

The recovered bodies were handed over to the Ugandan authorities, officials said.

Elsewhere in Serem, Vihiga county’s Sahani village, a man aged 45 was found dead on a footpath.

Police said the body had visible injuries when it was discovered on Monday afternoon. The injuries were on the stomach, neck, hands and head, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In a different incident, police are investigating a murder in an incident where a man was stoned to death after being accused of being a thief in Brooke area, Kericho County.

He was accused of stealing farm produce before being stoned to death by locals.

Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an investigation and autopsy. The police said mob lynching is criminal, and they are investigating the incident.

Such cases have been on the rise in urban and rural areas amid campaigns to stop the trend. Police want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for processing and arraignment.

Police say some of the suspects are framed up and killed for a motive.

Several such cases are pending under probe in various places.

In Londiani, Kericho County, police arrested a suspected brewer of an illicit brew for murder. This was after a reveller died after consuming alcohol he bought from the suspect on October 4, 2025.

Elsewhere in Tendwet, Narok county, one Richard Kiprotich Koskei, 67, died after falling into a river.

He was crossing a river when he slipped and fell therein, hitting his head on a stone.

He died instantly. The body was picked up and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Police said they are investigating the incident.

In Muhuru Bay, Migori county, a man was arrested after he had fatally assaulted another person in an altercation.

Police said David Odoyo, 28, succumbed to the injuries following the assault.
