The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has mourned the passing of former nominated Member of the County Assembly in Siaya County and a member of the ODM Disability League Georgina Margaret Oketch.
Oketch died after a short illness, the party confirmed, as leaders and supporters sent their tributes, remembering her as a dedicated champion for inclusion and disability rights.
In a statement, ODM said the party had lost a committed member whose contributions would leave a lasting impact.
“We mourn the passing on of Hon. Georgina Margaret Oketch, a member of the ODM Disability League and a former nominated MCA in the Siaya County Assembly, after a short illness. We have lost a dedicated member of the party whose immense contribution will be missed. May she RIP,” the statement read.
Oketch previously served in the Siaya County Assembly, where she played an active role in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and advocating for social justice and equality within the county.
The party extended condolences to her family,
friends, and the broader Siaya community, describing her death as a significant
loss to both the party and the disability movement.
This follows the death of nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi, who died on December 6, at about 7 am.
"It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, December 6, 2025, at about 7:00 am," National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula said.
"Denar was nominated to the National Assembly following the 2022 General Elections under the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party."
Wetang'ula stated that until his untimely demise, Denar served the National Assembly with diligence and commitment as a Member of the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.
