Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, on Friday led a high-powered delegation of more than ten Principal Secretaries and heads of key government agencies on an inspection tour of national government projects in Kisumu County.

The team, drawn from the Governance and Public Administration Committee, which he chairs, began its visit at the Kisumu International Airport.

Dr Omollo said the committee meets regularly to review progress across state departments, focusing on service delivery, legislative agendas, and implementation of Cabinet directives.

He noted that the E-Citizen platform now hosts over 22,000 government services, significantly improving access for citizens.

The review also touched on security sector reforms, with updates from the National Police Service, whose accounting officer was present.

He was accompanied by several senior officials, including PS Betsy Njagi for Blue Economy, PS Salome Wairimu for Correctional Services, PS for Devolution, PS for Immigration, PS Teresia Mbaika for Aviation, PS for Government Coordination, PS Judith Pareno for Justice, PS Made for Special Programmes, PS for Innovation, and PS Dr Caroline Karugu for the East African Community.

Also present were the Solicitor General, the Director General of the Kenya Airports Authority, regional commissioners, county security teams, and senior officials from the County Government of Kisumu.

Dr Omollo said the delegation chose four major projects within the Nyanza region for detailed inspection.

The first was the new control tower at Kisumu International Airport, which has been completed and is awaiting commissioning.

The second was the Kenya Maritime Training Centre, which will support search-and-rescue operations and navigation on Lake Victoria.

The third project was the Lumma Affordable Housing project, currently the largest development in Kisumu.

The team also inspected the Kisumu International Convention Centre, a project that began ahead of the Africities Summit but later stalled, though some progress has since resumed.

He said the purpose of the visits is to assess progress, identify gaps, and intervene where necessary, whether on issues of funding, completion timelines, or adjustments in implementation.

He added that the airport is also undergoing renovation and expansion of its runway as part of wider modernisation efforts.

Dr Omollo appealed to the media to highlight the progress made by President William Ruto’s administration, saying that three years on, many projects across the region and country have been completed or are nearing completion.

PS Teresia Mbaika, the Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development, said the new control tower was constructed between 2023 and 2025 and is ready for use once equipment is moved from the old tower.

She said the tower meets international aviation standards set by ICAO, offering full visibility of the entire runway.

She noted that the runway is being expanded by the remaining 300 metres and that the terminal building will also be modernised to meet international standards.

She added that improving the aviation sector requires collaboration across multiple agencies, and the government is committed to ensuring that all airports meet global expectations.
