Police are investigating claims that there was a shooting incident near the residence of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi in in Kibiko, Kabete.

Wamatangi sounded the alarm after a bullet was fired near his family residence, renewing fears of politically-motivated violence ahead of the festive season.

He told reporters on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, that the gunshot, which struck a neighbour’s house about 40 metres away, happened shortly after he returned from a morning church service.

He believes the incident could have been meant as a warning or an assassination attempt.

He recalled that earlier, while on his way home via his farm, he had interrupted suspicious activity; unknown individuals were cutting trees with a power saw.

That encounter, he says, may have triggered the attack.

Governor Wamatangi — flanked by members of the county assembly — condemned the attack, describing it as “mysterious” and possibly politically motivated.

“We want this issue to be investigated for us to know the motive and those behind it,” he said.

Asked whether he feared for his safety, Wamatangi said he will not be intimidated, and urged security agencies to swiftly investigate the shooting and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The neighbour described hearing a loud bang around 3:30 p.m.

She said she initially thought it was a stone hitting the roof, but upon inspection discovered a bullet had pierced the corrugated iron.

Some in his camp suspect the attack may be linked to recent tension in the county, including disputes over development projects and power struggles.

Wamatangi has previously accused his critics of using state agencies to harass him — a claim that surfaced earlier this year during investigations by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), which he labelled a “political witch-hunt.”

The matter is under probe and at various stages.

The bullet head was handed over to the police for ballistic analysis.

Police said they are investigating the incident and claims.

A team was expected to visit the scene for analysis.

Elsewhere in Kalokol, Turkana county, a woman was shot and wounded in a robbery incident.

A gang of two armed with AK47 rifles raided shops in the Kalokol Market and in the process shot the woman in the shoulder.

The gang robbed the attendants of cash and other valuables before escaping, police said.

The woman was admitted in hospital in a stable condition.

Police said they are pursuing the gang behind the attacks.

Locals said such raids have been on the rise and want more action to tame the trend.

Police said they had sent more personnel to the area to address the issue.
