Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) dominance of Nairobi City politics is over.
Gachagua says his DCP, working in a coalition with Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper party, will sweep the majority of seats in 2027.
According to the DCP party leader, the United Opposition is targeting the governorship, the senate, at least 16 out of 17 parliamentary seats, and 75 out of 85 ward seats.
Speaking during a Thanksgiving service at P.C.E.A. Kariobangi North Berea Parish Church in Nairobi early Sunday, November 30, the DCP leader said his party’s victory in the Kariobangi Ward by-election was just the start.

“I want to thank the people of Kariobangi for electing your MCA on DCP. This is the party of Nairobi, and we have a plan going forward,” he said.
Gachagua added, “We have an agreement with the Wiper leader, who has been helping ODM in Nairobi. The deal is to have the Governor, Woman Rep and Senator on DCP, while we have agreed, working with Wiper, to have at least 16 out of 17 MPs in our coalition.”
The plan also aims to secure 75 out of 85 ward representatives, according to the former DP.

“In Mbeere, I was there to support DP and they rigged, but it’s okay. The media is not speaking about the three wards we won for a seven-month-old party,” he said, adding: “Here in Kariobangi, we beat UDA, which emerged fourth; in Narok, we beat UDA; and in Kisa East, we beat UDA and ODM. We lost narrowly in Purko and Magarini.”
Gachagua accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of employing bribery and using goons against his opponents, saying this will further alienate the ruling party from the Mt Kenya region.
“All the votes Ruto got in Nairobi were courtesy of Gachagua, and they have been moved to DCP,” he said.

Governor Johnson Sakaja was elected on a UDA ticket, while Edwin Sifuna and Esther Passaris won the Senate and Woman Rep seats respectively on ODM.
UDA and ODM displayed their dominance during last week’s by-elections, with UDA clinching the Baringo Senate seat as well as the Banisa, Mbeere North and Malava constituencies. ODM retained its seats in Ugunja, Kasipul and Magarini.
