Samuel Letasio has formally conceded defeat in the Baringo senatorial by-election held on November 27, 2025, after garnering 488 votes against winner Vincent Chemitei’s 55,246 votes.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Senator William Cheptumo in February 2025.

In a statement to supporters, Letasio said he accepted the outcome “with a heart full of humility, gratitude, and hope of a better Baringo.”

He said the campaign had taught him “something valuable about our county and about myself.”

Letasio raised concerns about the conduct of the poll, pointing to “a lot of reported irregularities and several alleged malpractices.” He said he lacked the capacity to place agents in most polling centres.

“Unfortunately, I was not well resourced to have agents in the majority of the polling stations to help us guard our votes and timely report such irregularities,” he said.

Letasio said he joined the race in October and said he entered with limited experience and constrained resources.

“I had limited resources, little political experience, and very little time to reach all corners of Baringo,” he said.

He recalled days when he lacked fuel or campaign materials. But he said residents encouraged him throughout the journey. “You, the people of Baringo, lifted me up,” he said.

He thanked supporters who “contributed whatever little you had just to help me move,” adding that some walked with him, encouraged him, or defended him during the campaign.

“To everyone who supported my campaign, voted for me, spoke for me, and guarded my vote, thank you,” he said.

Letasio also expressed concern over what he called low voter turnout, saying it should worry the county. “A Senator is not just a title; it is a defender of your rights, your resources, and your voice at the national level,” he said.

He directed part of his message to young voters, urging them to prepare for the 2027 General Election.

“Your vote is your power,” he said. “In 2027, you will decide the future of Baringo County. Do not sit back and watch; participate.”

Letasio congratulated Chemitei on his victory and urged him to serve with integrity. “I ask you to serve our people of Baringo with honesty, courage, and a deep sense of responsibility,” he said.

“I hope you fulfil your manifesto because #MwanzoMpyaBaringo is our new reality.”

He assured supporters that he will remain active in public affairs. “This is not goodbye. One day, we shall meet again, stronger, wiser, and better prepared to fight for the future of Baringo,” he said.

Letasio came distanced fifth out of the six candidates.
