A suspect has been arrested in Eastleigh, Nairobi, following an intelligence-driven operation led by detectives from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU).

The suspect was located at a residence, where officers carried out a coordinated raid resulting in the arrest.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), she is suspected of soliciting and providing support to a terrorist organisation.

"Detectives from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) have arrested a woman suspected of soliciting and providing support to a terrorist group. Her arrest follows an intelligence-led operation that led detectives to her residence along Major Muriithi Street in Eastleigh," the agency said in a statement.

Authorities recovered a passport and a mobile phone at the scene, which are now being examined by forensic analysts for information related to her alleged activities.

The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing processing ahead of arraignment.

The DCI said the operation reflects Kenya’s ongoing efforts to address terrorism and extremism through proactive security measures.

"The swift action taken in Eastleigh is part of broader counter-terrorism strategies that rely on intelligence sharing, inter-agency coordination, and collaboration with the public," the DCI added.

In recent years, the government has strengthened monitoring and surveillance in high-risk areas, resulting in several operations targeting suspected extremist networks.

The DCI has urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely information on suspicious activities. Officials emphasise that community cooperation is key to preventing radicalisation and potential attacks.

Under the National Police Service Act of 2011, the DCI is responsible for detecting, preventing, and investigating crime.

Its functions include gathering criminal intelligence, investigating serious crimes such as terrorism, homicide, cybercrime, and trafficking, conducting forensic analysis, and executing directives from the Director of Public Prosecutions in accordance with constitutional processes.
