President William Ruto has joined other leaders in mourning former Cabinet Minister and Mbooni MP Joseph Munyao, describing him as a steady and devoted public servant whose work left a lasting mark on communities across the country.

In his condolence message, Ruto said he was deeply saddened by the news of Munyao’s passing and extended heartfelt sympathies to the Munyao family and the people of Mbooni Constituency in Makueni County.

He noted that Munyao served the nation with quiet dedication and a deep sense of responsibility.

“We are saddened by the passing of former Cabinet Minister Joseph Munyao, who was also a former MP for Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and to the people of Mbooni as we honour a man who served with steady dedication,” the President said.

Ruto highlighted Munyao’s strong connection with farmers, noting that he devoted much of his public life to improving livelihoods and strengthening agricultural systems.

"He worked very closely with farmers to strengthen their livelihoods, which remains a lasting contribution to our country,” he stated.

The President described Munyao as a leader whose service was defined not by fanfare but by quiet resolve, discipline, and genuine commitment to the well-being of ordinary citizens.

He added that Munyao’s impact would continue to be felt for years, particularly in communities that benefited directly from his leadership.

“His public service reflected a quiet resolve and a clear sense of duty that shaped many lives,” Ruto said, assuring the bereaved family that the late leader’s legacy remains firmly rooted in the progress he championed.

He further expressed hope that Munyao’s loved ones would find comfort in the knowledge that his contributions to the nation endure.

“May his loved ones find comfort in knowing his legacy endures in the communities he uplifted and the country he served with honour and dedication. May the Lord rest his soul in eternal peace,” he added.

Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka expressed deep sadness over Munyao’s passing.

“I am deeply saddened as I join the Munyao family, friends, and the Nation in mourning the passing of Hon. Joseph K. Munyao,” he said.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula also offered his condolences.

"It is with profound sorrow that I have received the news of the passing of Hon. Joseph Munyao, former Mbooni MP and a distinguished Cabinet Minister,” he said.

Munyao, a respected figure in Kenya’s political and agricultural spheres, is remembered for his commitment to farmers, his calm leadership, and his unwavering devotion to public service.

Munyao, who passed away today, was born May 4, 1940, in Makueni County.

He was Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Development under President Mwai Kibaki.

Before politics, he worked as a bank clerk and later in the provincial administration; he also served in the Kenyan embassy in Moscow.
