Two suspected thieves died after being subjected to mob justice in Nyali, Mombasa County, on Monday morning.

The incident, which occurred on November 3, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., was reported to the police by members of the public who stated that two men riding a motorcycle were being chased by a mob on suspicion of theft.

Officers from Nyali Police Station responded to the scene and found the suspects already assaulted by the public.

They were rescued and rushed to Coast General Hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead on arrival. The second suspect, 25, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

According to police, the suspects had dropped two mobile phones — a Samsung S23+ and a Samsung S24 Ultra — and abandoned their motorcycle, registration number KMGR 299X, as they attempted to flee. The recovered items were taken to Nyali Police Station.

Victims of the robbery, identified as Haqae and Entesar Salate, later visited the station, identified their stolen phones, and recorded statements, saying they were robbed at Mombasa Posta.

The bodies were released to the families and buried according to Islamic rites.

Elsewhere, in Kobujoi, Nandi County, a man was lynched after a failed robbery attempt, police said. His body was found in a tea plantation after being attacked by a mob. Police took the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.

In Kisumu’s Obunga area, a 32-year-old man was also stoned to death after he was caught stealing household goods from a home.

A mob responded to screams from the homeowner and attacked the suspect in the Segaseda area on Tuesday afternoon. His body was later taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Police have condemned the rising cases of mob lynching, urging the public to surrender suspects to law enforcement officers for due process. Authorities say some victims of such attacks have later been found to be innocent.

The incidents are under investigation, with statistics showing that at least one case of mob justice is reported daily.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the death of a 40-year-old house help in Lavington, Nairobi.

The body of Florence Atamba was found on her bed on Tuesday morning after she reportedly collapsed and died. Police said she had woken up for her usual chores before returning to her room, where she was later found dead. The cause of death was not immediately established. Her body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said.
