The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has
announced that 90,020 new voters have been added to the electoral register as
part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the
country.
In a statement seen by The Star, the commission said the
numbers reflect progress in its efforts to ensure more Kenyans register as
voters, update their details, or transfer to preferred polling stations.
The update covers registrations recorded up to October 31,
2025.
The IEBC reported that, in addition to newly registered
voters, 15,619 people transferred their voter details to different polling
stations, while 188 updated their particulars.
Nairobi County recorded the highest number of new
registrations at 16,512, followed by Kiambu with 9,917, and Machakos with
4,026.
Other counties with notable figures included Mombasa
(3,967), Meru (3,128), Nakuru (3,265), and Murang’a (3,330).
Counties with the lowest registration numbers included Tana
River with 130, Samburu with 319, and Isiolo with 312.
In Lamu, 417 new voters were registered, while Marsabit
recorded 284 and Laikipia 739.
The commission clarified that CVR did not take place in 24
electoral areas where by-elections are scheduled for November 27, 2025.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon said the commission
remains committed to fulfilling its constitutional mandate under Article 88(4),
which includes maintaining a credible, up-to-date voter register.
He called on political parties, civil society, faith-based
organisations, the media, and other stakeholders to support the exercise by
encouraging eligible citizens to register, verify their information, or
transfer to their preferred polling stations.
“A credible and up-to-date voter register remains the
cornerstone of free, fair, and transparent elections,” the statement read.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the
integrity of the electoral process and ensuring every eligible Kenyan has an
opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s democratic future.
The report also detailed voter transfer numbers, with
Nairobi again leading at 5,388 transfers, followed by Kiambu (1,766), Nakuru
(957), and Mombasa (1,791). Counties such as Wajir, Mandera, and Isiolo
recorded no transfers.
Particular updates remained low, with only 188 changes
nationwide. Nairobi reported 27 updates, Kiambu 36, and Nakuru 34, while
several counties such as Tana River, Lamu, and Wajir reported none.
The commission urged citizens to take advantage of the
ongoing registration exercise ahead of upcoming electoral events.
The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise began on
Monday, September 29, as part of preparations for the 2027 General Election.
The registration drive aims to expand Kenya’s voter base
from the current 22.1 million to include an estimated 6.3 million new voters.
