Youth activist Kasmuel McOure has called on elected leaders within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to remain committed to the Broad-Based political arrangement between ODM and UDA.
McOure said the agreement was made in the interest of national unity and stability.
In a statement addressed to the party’s secretary general and ODM members, McOure said the party had joined the Broad-Based arrangement for the sake of the country.
He argued that those who supported it during internal discussions should continue to stand by it publicly.
He noted that the arrangement involved coordinated political cooperation, including negotiations on electoral zones and mutual support in certain regions.
McOure said these discussions were conducted openly at the leadership level and should not be denied now that the country is in the implementation phase.
“Elected members of ODM must not engage in political chicanery. The party entered the Broad-Based arrangement for the sake of the country. You pushed for this arrangement in boardrooms; you must not now pretend to oppose it when you face the people,” he said.
“While it is important to strengthen our party, we must also uphold the values that make us ODM: bravery, integrity, and decisiveness in the face of political storms.”
He maintained that the cooperation agreement involved fielding and supporting candidates from both ODM and UDA, and in some cases, asking aspirants to step down to maintain unity.
The leader urged members to avoid using differing internal positions to create confusion among supporters, saying the arrangement had been reached at the highest levels of the party and should be respected.
“We shall not allow the words of our party’s spokesperson to be weaponized verbatim by our opponents against our party and its candidates. No one tried to sabotage your election. Don’t do it to others,” he said.
McOure also called for focus on service delivery, saying the Ten-Point Agenda outlining governance priorities provides a clear framework for accountability without undermining unity.
He added that the guidance of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga remains central to the party’s direction.
“You signed that document alongside Baba. His word, not your feelings, carries. When campaign season arrives, you may go your own way. But for now, let us focus on service and integrity,” he said.
“There are Broad-Based candidates from both ODM and UDA in the upcoming by-elections. There are Broad-Based priorities from ODM, enshrined in the Ten-Point Agenda. Let us focus.”
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna vowed unwavering loyalty to the party and to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s legacy.
Sifuna declared that he will “never betray ODM or Raila Odinga’s principles” and insisted on unity as the party prepares for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a party event in Mombasa, Sifuna acknowledged disagreements within ODM ranks but maintained that the guiding instruction from Raila remains clear: protect and preserve the party’s identity.
“I know right now many things are being said by everyone in the party, but what we can all agree on is what Raila told us. He told us to maintain the party so that in 2027 we produce our own candidate,” he said.
He dismissed claims that ODM’s political strength rests solely on Raila, adding that the party has several capable leaders who could carry its presidential flag.
