The National Police Service (NPS) has announced that it will conduct a nationwide recruitment exercise for police constables on November 17, 2025.

The recruitment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security services and enhance the country’s policing capacity.

According to a notice issued by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, the recruitment will take place simultaneously in counties across 422 designated centres, and all applicants are required to report to their respective venues by 8:00 am sharp.

Senior police officers and representatives from relevant government agencies, to ensure transparency and fairness, will oversee the exercise.

The Inspector General emphasised that the recruitment process will be free and open to all qualified Kenyans who meet the minimum entry requirements.

The announcements come as the High Court declared that the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has no power to recruit, train, employ, assign, promote, suspend, or dismiss members of the NPS.

The court said such functions fall exclusively under the independent command of the Inspector General (IG) as provided in Article 245 of the Constitution.

In the notice, Kanja said applicants are required to be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, possess a valid Kenya national identity card, and have attained a minimum grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), with at least a D+ in English or Kiswahili.

Candidates must also be physically and medically fit, with the minimum height requirements set at 5 feet 8 inches for men and 5 feet 3 inches for women.

The NPS further stated that applicants must have no criminal record or pending criminal charges, while female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment or the entire training period.

The service encouraged National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the qualifications to apply, noting that their prior training would be an added advantage.

Kanja warned against corruption, bribery, or any form of malpractice during the recruitment process, reiterating that participation in such activities constitutes a criminal offence.

“The National Police Service recruitment drive is free and open to all eligible and qualified candidates. Engaging in bribery or any other corrupt practice with the intent to influence the process is illegal and punishable by law,” he said.

Members of the public have been urged to report any suspicious activities or recruitment malpractices to the nearest police station or through the toll-free hotlines 999, 911, 112, or #FichuaKwaDCI 0800722203. The NPS assured that all reports would be treated with strict confidentiality.

Interested applicants are required to download and complete the prescribed application form, which is available on official government websites.

Application forms can also be obtained from the nearest Huduma Centre.

Upon completing the forms, candidates must present themselves at their designated recruitment centres on the day of the exercise, carrying both originals and photocopies of their academic certificates, national ID, birth certificate, and, where applicable, an NYS discharge certificate with a minimum rating of “Good” in conduct.

The NPS clarified that all original documents will be returned to the applicants before they leave the recruitment centre.
