**Butere County Hospital launched by President William Ruto during his Kakamega tour on Thursday, October 30, 2025/PCS**

President William Ruto on Thursday presided over the official opening of the new 124-bed Butere County Hospital in Kakamega County, marking a significant milestone for the people of Butere and the wider Western region.

The facility, now elevated to Level 4 status, is equipped with modern medical equipment and specialised departments designed to expand access to essential health services.

It is expected to ease the burden on referral hospitals in the region while improving maternal, child, and emergency care.

The new hospital forms part of the government’s broader plan to ensure every sub-county has a functional and well-equipped healthcare facility as the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program continues to take shape nationwide.

President Ruto said the opening of the Butere Level 4 Hospital represents a key step toward expanding healthcare access while anchoring Western Kenya as a critical partner in the country’s transformation agenda.

The visit is part of a broader effort to strengthen healthcare, infrastructure, and education under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

During the same tour, President Ruto inaugurated the Malava Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Malava Constituency.

The institution will train hundreds of students in health-related fields, contributing to the government’s efforts to bridge the shortage of medical professionals in public health facilities.

By decentralising training opportunities to rural counties, the government aims to ensure that more young people can access specialised education close to home while strengthening the healthcare system from the grassroots.

The President’s engagements in Kakamega marked the start of a major development tour of Western Kenya, signalling his administration’s renewed focus on accelerating growth and improving public service delivery across the region.

The multi-day tour, which began in Kakamega County, brings together top government officials and local leaders, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

President Ruto also launched the Malava–Samitsi–Navakholo Road, a crucial infrastructure project expected to boost mobility and trade across Kakamega County.

The road will improve access to markets, schools, and health facilities, stimulating economic activity and connecting rural communities to urban centers.

Over the next few days, the President is expected to visit Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, and Trans Nzoia counties, where additional projects in health, agriculture, and road development are scheduled for inspection and commissioning.

The government continues to emphasise that such investments are not only about improving infrastructure but also about creating opportunities, enhancing livelihoods, and ensuring that no region is left behind in Kenya’s development journey.
