Detectives are investigating an incident in which a four-year-old boy was
found murdered in a village in Kiriaini, Mathioya, Murang’a County.
A suspect linked to the killing of the PP1 pupil
was rescued by police after a mob confronted and assaulted him in the village
on Wednesday evening.
Police said they are yet to establish the motive
behind the murder.
The body of the minor was found lying in a pool
of blood with deep cut wounds on the head.
A blood-stained panga, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered at
the scene and kept as an exhibit, police said.
The suspect was detained at a local police
station pending further investigations and possible arraignment for murder.
The boy’s body was moved to the mortuary pending
a postmortem examination and other procedures, police added.
Elsewhere in Marereni, Kilifi County, there was
drama after a mob raided a dispensary and forcibly removed the body of a
70-year-old man while protesting what they claimed was his killing.
However, police said preliminary
investigations showed that the deceased, identified as Hassan Barro, had collapsed
while searching for his stolen herd of cattle on Wednesday afternoon.
He was rushed to a local hospital, where he
was pronounced dead. When word of his death spread, an angry mob stormed the
facility and seized the body.
The group later marched to a nearby police
station, demanding justice for the alleged killing.
When police attempted to take custody of the
body, the mob resisted and fled with it.
Police said on Friday they were making efforts
to trace the whereabouts of the body.
Meanwhile, police in Nairobi’s Kawangware area
are investigating an incident in which an infant was found murdered and her
body dumped at a garbage site.
The body of the baby girl was discovered
inside a torn briefcase by locals on Wednesday evening.
The infant appeared to be about two months
old. Police said they are treating the incident as a case of infanticide and
moved the body to the mortuary.
In Nandi County, an infant was found alive
after being dumped in a pit latrine.
Police said the baby boy’s mother fled the scene. The child was rescued and
taken to hospital, where he is in stable condition.
Authorities have raised concern over the
rising cases of infanticide and child abuse despite ongoing efforts to curb the
trend. Police warned that such acts remain serious offenses under the law.
