A 29-year-old woman was found dead after a suspected murder in her house in Uthiru area, Kiambu County.

Police said the body of Janet Wanjiku Njeri was found by her mother in her room while covered by a heap of clothes.

The mother said she was looking for clothes to dress her (deceased's) young children to go to school when she stumbled on the body.

The family lived in a two-bedroom house in the Gichagi area where the incident happened on Tuesday, police said.

The mother of the deceased, who works at a salon in the area, said she had left for work on Monday and left Njeri in the house. She came back late and did not find her.

She sought to know from the children where she was, and they told her she was at work, oblivious of the fact that her body was in the house and covered by clothes.

The family went to bed, hoping to see Njeri in vain. Her mobile phone had been switched off.

It was until Tuesday morning, when she was looking for clothes to dress the deceased’s young children, that she stumbled on the body.

Police were called to the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy. The motive of the murder was not immediately established.

The police suspect the woman was killed in the house. The body had facial physical injuries.

Meanwhile, detectives are investigating an incident where the body of a 34-year-old man who had been missing was found in a borehole in Mtondia Maweni area, Kilifi county.

It is not clear if he was killed and thrown there, fell by accident, or if he died by suicide.
