In a message shared on social media platform X, Amin described the loss as a moment of deep sorrow for the National Police Service, expressing heartfelt sympathy on behalf of the entire DCI fraternity.

“The Director, together with the entire DCI fraternity, extends heartfelt condolences and stands in solidarity with the Inspector General and his family during this difficult time. We are united in mourning their loss and offer our deepest sympathies as they navigate this challenging period,” the message read.

The burial of Mzee Kanja is scheduled for Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the family home in Thome Village, Matanya Sub-location, Tigithi Location in Laikipia County.

Amin assured the Inspector General of the continued support and prayers from the DCI and broader police service community as the family prepares to lay their patriarch to rest.

The condolence visit came at a time when the country is still in a period of national mourning following the burial of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, at his Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County.

The former Prime Minister was honoured with a state funeral, attended by a host of dignitaries, including President William Ruto and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In a posthumous tribute, President Ruto conferred on Raila the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart, Kenya’s highest civilian honour, in recognition of his immense contributions to democracy and public service.

On Monday, Uhuru visited Raila’s grave in a personal act of remembrance. Accompanied by Raila’s elder brother, Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga, and other family members, Uhuru stood in quiet reflection before the flower-covered grave of his longtime political ally and friend.

The funeral drew an unprecedented gathering of national and international dignitaries, underlining the former Prime Minister’s towering influence in Kenya and across Africa.

Ruto led the nation in mourning, delivering a tribute that recognised Raila’s pivotal role in Kenya’s political evolution.

Other high-ranking attendees included Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, various Cabinet and Principal Secretaries, Members of Parliament, and Senators.

Also present was former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, a long-time friend of Raila and one of the international dignitaries who joined Kenyans in celebrating the life of the opposition icon.
