Emotions ran high on Saturday morning at Mamboleo Stadium, Kisumu, where mourners gathered for the public viewing of the body of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Among the more poignant moments was when Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga appeared visibly overwhelmed, breaking down into tears.

Wanga, a close ally of the late opposition leader, was visibly overwhelmed by grief.

Dressed in a somber attire, decorated with an Image of former PM Raila, she covered her face with a white handkerchief and wept openly, surrounded by fellow mourners and other state officials who tried to comfort her.

Cameras captured the emotional moment as she struggled to hold back sobs, alongside other mourners.

Raila's body was airlifted to Mamboleo Stadium, arriving at around 8:47 am, shortly after landing at Kisumu International Airport.

Mourners arrived at the Stadium as early as 6 am, carrying twigs and the Kenyan flag, as they awaited to pay their last respects to the son of the land.

The public viewing at Mamboleo is scheduled to last from 9am to 3pm, after which the body will be transported by road to Bondo for an overnight vigil.

A state funeral is planned on Sunday in Bondo, following the preceding ceremonies in Nairobi.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with additional security and crowd management measures in place to prevent repeat chaotic scenes.
