Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Chairman Kiprono Kittony has paid tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a “fallen hero” whose contributions to Kenya’s democracy and economic development will remain unmatched.

In his condolence message, Kittony said Raila’s death marked “the end of a chapter in Kenya’s history,” noting that the 80-year-old leader’s influence spanned decades of political struggle, reform, and national unity.

“The sun setting on our fallen hero Hon. Raila Odinga marks the end of a chapter in Kenya’s history,” Kittony said.

“A man of remarkable personality with the exceptional gift of friendship, Raila touched the lives of many in the 80 years that God granted him. As Kenyans, we owe the fallen hero a huge debt of gratitude for expanding the democratic space that we now enjoy.”

The NSE chair hailed Raila’s role in bridging the gap between government and the private sector during his tenure as Prime Minister in the Grand Coalition government.

He noted that Odinga initiated structured dialogue between policymakers and business leaders, a move that strengthened investor confidence and promoted economic reforms.

“Hon. Odinga was a champion of the private sector and initiated the dialogue between government and businesses when he served as Prime Minister,” Kittony said.

He added that Raila’s legacy transcends politics, crediting him for championing governance reforms that laid the groundwork for Kenya’s current economic freedoms and institutional resilience.

“Words cannot describe the sense of loss in losing a father figure who has served both internationally and in Kenya,” he said.

Kittony conveyed his “sincere and heartfelt condolences” to Raila’s family, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, and the people of Nyanza, terming the loss as one that has touched every corner of the nation.

Raila Odinga, one of Kenya’s most influential political figures, died in India on Wednesday morning while receiving treatment.

His passing has drawn tributes from world leaders, business executives, and citizens who credit him for his role in advancing multiparty democracy, devolution, and governance reforms.

He is set to be accorded a state funeral with full military honours on Sunday at his rural home in Bondo, Siaya County.
