Detectives are investigating a suspected murder case after the body of a man
was found in a thicket in the Maua area, Meru County.
The body had decomposed when it was discovered on Friday
evening, police said.
The motive of the murder is yet to be established.
Residents reported the body was spotted after a foul smell
attracted them to the scene.
The body was mutilated and had decomposed when it was
discovered, police said.
Police arrived at the scene and moved the body to the mortuary
pending an identification process and autopsy.
In
Laare, Meru County, three suspects were arrested after they fatally beat up a
man on the claim that he stole bundles of miraa.
Police
said Dominic Mwongera, 21 died after he was assaulted by the three and others
at large near a local secondary school on October 3, 2025.
The
three are expected to face murder charges, police said.
In Kimwarer, Elgeyo Marakwet County, a 70-year-old man was
arrested after he hacked and killed a 35-year-old man in his house.
The motive of the murder of Laban Kiptoo was not
immediately established, police said.
His body was found lying in his bed long after he had died
on October 10, 2025 and was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police
said the body had deep cuts in the head when it was discovered. The man stayed
alone at the time of his murder.
It was
then that the suspected killer was trailed and arrested within the area pending
an interrogation and possible prosecution, police said.
Police revisited the murder scene on Saturday as they searched
for the murder weapon.
Such murder incidents have been on the rise in villages and
are linked to land disputes, police say, amid ongoing investigations to address
the cases.
Some of them are pending before courts, while others are yet
to be solved.
Police say murder cases have been on the rise and some of them
are linked to love triangle and deals gone bad.
Up to eight murder incidents are reported on a daily basis in
a worrying trend.
As part of efforts to address the cases, the police have
established a homicide unit to focus on the trend.
The unit has also devolved their operations to the regions and are among others relying on technology to address the cases, officials say amid a push for more financial allocations to enhance operations.
