A man was stoned to death in an argument over a debt of Sh100 in the Watamu area, Kilifi County.
The assailant was
later lynched by an angry mob that responded to the scene, police said.
According to
police, one Lawrence Nyaika, 35, had an argument with Abdul Yussuf, Bwanaheri, over Sh100 debt.
Police said Nyaika
operated a hotel in the area, and Bwanaheri had food at the joint, incurring a
debt of Sh100.
Nyaika went to demand the money from Bwanaheri, prompting a confrontation.
Witnesses told
police said this went physical, prompting Nyaika to pick up a stone that he used
to hit Bwanaheri, 38 in the head, killing him on the spot.
He was rushed
to a hospital in Malindi, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The family
took back the body to the deceased man’s home which angered villagers when they
learnt he had died.
The mob descended
on Nyaika with stones and twigs, killing him. An ambulance responded to the scene
and picked him up to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police
said of the October 3 incident.
The bodies were
moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures, police said amid
ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile,
police in Khayega, Kakamega County, are investigating a murder after a night guard
was found dead at his place of work.
Police said the
victim, identified as Ibrahim Mirimu, 5,7 was slit his throat by unknown
assailants.
The motive
behind the murder of Mirimu is yet to be known, police said.
A colleague who
was with the deceased said he went to check on him at the rear of the place of
work when he found him dead.
The assailants
used a sharp object to slit the man’s throat, police said as they moved the body
to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
No arrest has
been made over the October 3 incident, police said.
Meanwhile, a herder was shot and injured in a robbery incident targeting
livestock in Buuri, Meru County.
Police said the attackers drove off with more than 100 animals.
The victim was shot in the neck and left with serious injuries, police
said.
The attackers stole his 11 cows, 65 goats and 35 sheep. They also raided his neighbours and stole his 20 cows and five goats.
The gang fired several bullets into the air as they left the homes with
the stolen animals.
The man was rushed to the hospital in a stable condition as police visited the scene in pursuit of the attackers.
This is the latest such incident to happen in the area amid efforts to address cases of cattle rustling. Police have mounted operations in the area and neighbouring counties to address the menace.
