    Wheels of Justice

The High Court will today make a ruling on whether former Central Police Station OCS Samson Taalam will be released on bond or not.

Taalam was charged alongside two other police officers with the murder of Albert Ojwang, who was killed in the cells at the station in June.

The other two police officers charged with the murder are James Mukhwana and Peter Kimani.

Also charged with Ojwang’s murder were John Ngige Gitau, Gin Ammitou Abwao and Brian Mwaniki Njue, who are all said to have been in the cell at the time the blogger was killed.

The six have since pleaded not guilty and asked to be released on bond or bail.

Justice Kavedza will today decide whether the accused are to be admitted to bond.

    KNH patient's killing case

In the same court, Kennedy Kalombotole, the main suspect in the killing of patients at the Kenyatta National Hospital, will today plead to murder charges after he was found fit to stand trial following a mental assessment.

The court was informed that the findings indicated Kalombotole is fit to plead despite his medical condition, including diabetes.

The judge ordered that Kalombotole be produced physically in court today for plea-taking.

The suspect, who had earlier failed to take a plea on July 29, 2025, appeared composed in the dock before Justice Kavedza but did not respond when addressed by the judge.

This was contrary to police statements that he was able to communicate verbally.

His lawyers are, however, filing a preliminary objection on jurisdiction as they want the case moved from the Kibera High Court to the Milimani High Court.

They also want to object to the production of the mental health assessment report from Mbagathi Hospital on the grounds that it is shallow.

As such, the defence team want the plea taking deferred until the preliminary issues have been dealt.

    Kasipul case

In the same court, the case of suspects accused of killing former Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were is coming up for directions.

Were was shot and killed on April 30. He was the Member of Parliament for Kasipul Constituency in Homabay County. Were hailed from the Kanabok area.
