
A boy aged 11 died after a rock collapsed on him in a cave he
was sheltering in Kapsokwony, Mt Elgon, Bungoma County, police said.
The boy was a grade six pupil at Kimkung Primary School in the
area.
He had taken food to his father, who was working at a quarry in the area, on September 22, 2025, when it started to rain.
The boy decided to take shelter under a cave when it suddenly
collapsed and trapped him fatally, police and witnesses said.
The incident happened as his father also took shelter a few
meters away in another cave. He and other workers rushed to the scene in
attempts to rescue him in vain.
The body was retrieved and moved to a local mortuary pending an
autopsy, police said.
The school was in a mourning mood on Tuesday as the boy was missing from his usual desk following his death.
In Kisumu’s Dago area, the body of a fisherman identified as Stephen Ochieng,
35, was retrieved from Lake Victoria after he drowned.
Police and locals said he drowned while on a fishing expedition.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
In Gachoka, Embu County, a juvenile at Kangeta Primary School
was found dead on his bed. The nine-year-old boy who was a special unit pupil
died under unclear circumstances.
The police said they moved the body to the mortuary pending an
autopsy.
And police in Chuka are investigating an incident where one
Francis Mwandiki, 40, was found dead in his house.
Police officers visited the scene and established that the deceased, who had not been seen for three days, was lying dead on his bed with no visible injuries.
