Police have rescued a six-year-old girl who was reported missing on September 22, 2025.
The child had been picked up from school by an unknown person, according to a report filed at Runda Police Station.
Her mother later received a chilling message from an anonymous number demanding Sh300,000 for the girl’s release.
Investigators swiftly launched a forensic-led operation in collaboration with the Kibra Sarang’ombe community policing team. The search led officers to the Soweto slums in Kibra, where they found the girl inside an unfinished church building.
She was discovered sleeping, wrapped in worn-out beddings. Detectives also recovered her school uniform and shoes at the scene.
However, the suspect managed to escape shortly before police arrived. The child was rushed to a medical facility for care and observation.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has urged Kenyans to share any information that could help bring the suspect to justice.
“#FichuaKwaDCI. Call 0800 722 203 (Toll-free) or WhatsApp 0709 570 000 to report anonymously. Usiogope!” the agency appealed in a statement.
Detectives confirmed that the hunt for the kidnapper is ongoing and that they are following key leads.
This incident comes weeks after police in Murang’a arrested four individuals believed to be part of a kidnapping syndicate in Kangema Sub-County.
The arrests, made on September 6, followed a coordinated operation in Kiriaini. According to the DCI, the suspects had kidnapped a woman and forced her to withdraw Sh585,000 from her bank account to buy her freedom.
During the raid, detectives impounded a Toyota Corolla believed to have been used in multiple abductions. The vehicle is now being held as an exhibit.
The four suspects remain in custody, awaiting arraignment.
