A suspected thief was killed and another seriously injured after a mob attack at Bondo Nyironge trading centre in Suna West, Migori County.

According to a police report filed at Bondo Nyironge Police Station, the incident occurred on Sunday at around midday.

Officers rushed to the scene, located about two kilometres from the station, after receiving reports from members of the public.

Police identified the victims as Vincent Osubo Gekonga, 26, and John Paul Wenyo, 19.

Both were alleged to have been caught stealing before being subjected to mob justice.

The two were found lying unconscious with multiple injuries inflicted by members of the public. They were taken to Migori County Referral Hospital for treatment.

Doctors at the facility pronounced Gekonga dead on arrival, while Wenyo is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries.

The body of the deceased has been preserved at the hospital mortuary.

Police say investigations into the case have been launched, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Suna West handling the matter.

Authorities have warned against mob justice, urging residents to report crime to law enforcement agencies instead.
