Police in Mbooni East, Makueni county have launched investigations into an incident where a motor vehicle was torched by irate members of the public over a man's alleged murder. 

The mini-truck belonging to a construction company was reportedly torched by the locals at Kwa Mukunuu village in Mbooni East Subcounty on Sunday. 

The company has been contracted to tarmac the Hangini-Tawa road within Makueni county.

The angry residents were protesting the death of a 21-year-old man who reportedly died after he was hit by a stone.

The stone is alleged to have been hurled by one of the company's employees, prompting the locals to direct their anger at the motor vehicle. 

The motor vehicle's driver, who was transporting road construction materials during the incident, abandoned it and fled the scene for safety.

The incident caused lots of rage and tension in the area, with security agencies responding to the scene.

There have been concerns about increased incidents of the public taking law into their own hands across the country.

Police have warned the public from the culture of engaging in mob justice whenever there are incidents, especially involving deaths in their neighbourhood.

The incident happened a few hours after the public torched a motorcycle in Masinga, Machakos county on Sunday. 

In the same Makueni county, over 100 students lost their personal belongings after fire razed their dormitory on Saturday night.

Fire broke out at the Holy Ghost secondary school located along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway in Sultan Hamud,  Makueni county, leading to the destruction of property worth millions of shillings. 

No casualties were reported in the incident despite the fire razing the entire first floor of the building.

The dormitory reportedly was a home to 111 students. The cause of the fire wasn't immediately established.

Police have launched investigations into the three incidents.
