National Assembly Minority leader Junet Mohamed on Monday
left mourners in stitches after making lighthearted remarks directed at
Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.
Speaking at a funeral of Ichung’wah’s father Mzee Isaac
Ichung’wah Ngugi, Junet jokingly recalled a time when the Majority Leader gave
him a ride from Parliament to a meeting in Lavington.
He described the experience as terrifying.
“The father was also a good driver but I want to tell
Ichung’wah I have seen two things that you are not doing very well. One is that
driving. One time you drove me from Parliament to a meeting in Lavington, I was
holding my heart in my hand. Tutafika kweli? That you must improve,”
Junet said, sparking laughter.
He then added a second joke, this time around saying that it
affected the both of them.
Junet said that they have not done a good job in taking care
of their former girlfriends.
He said that it was a matter that they had to discuss how to go
about later on in the day.
“The second thing we are not doing well, and it is not only
you, is how to take care of your ex with eight children. I must accept that we are
not doing well. We must have a side meeting this evening to discuss those
things together,” he quipped at the funeral attended by President William Ruto.
His playful comments lightened the somber mood, with
mourners applauding and laughing at the candid exchange between the two
leaders.
Junet’s remarks were in reference to earlier remarks that
Ichung’wah’s father married a former girlfriend as his third wife.
He also adopted the former girlfriend’s eight children and
educated all of them.
