National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has said the 2027 General Election will be both an election and a referendum on the country’s political culture.
According to Junet, the polls will mark the end of what he termed “politics of exclusivity” and “politics of entitlement.”
“This coming election, the way I see it, is going to be an election and also a referendum. It will determine, once and for all, the politics of locking some people out and allowing others in,” he said.
“The politics of saying so-and-so is not fit to be president, or so-and-so can or cannot lead, will end in 2027.”
Speaking during a grassroots leaders’ meeting in Migori County, the Suna East MP even went on to jokingly declare that he will seek for reelection for one term before eyeing that of the presidency.
President William Ruto chaired the meeting, which also saw the attendance of all elected leaders from the county and some cabinet secretaries.
“Even me, I can be president, if I can be given one more term, the next one I’ll take from you,” he said.
Junet, at the same time, stated that as ODM, they will fully support the broad-based government as it is currently.
He said his party’s Central Management Committee, chaired by Raila Odinga, has resolved to support the formation to stabilise and develop the country.
“The only government that has done something is Migori’s colonial government and this one. All the others, we saw nothing,” he remarked.
He also criticised the opposition for lacking a meaningful agenda, saying the high cost of politics was being fuelled by “protests with no agenda.”
“These people running around, when you ask them what their agenda is, they will not tell you anything,” he said.
