Kanu national chairman Gideon Moi on Saturday paid a condolence visit to the home of National Assembly majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah in Kikuyu, Kiambu county, following the death of his father, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi.

Gideon described the late Mzee Ngugi as a visionary community leader, respected businessman and a man whose wisdom touched many.

He recalled Ngugi’s longstanding friendship with his father, the late President Daniel Moi, noting that the bond between the two families stretched back decades.

“We honour the life and memories of the late Mzee Isaac Ichung’wah Ngugi. He was a visionary community leader and an astute businessman," he said.

"We cherish the memories he shared as a personal friend to the late retired President Daniel arap Moi."

The Kanu boss is the latest senior opposition figure to console the Ichung’wah family, joining Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah, who visited on Friday, and a host of other national leaders.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and several members of the cabinet have also made their way to the Kikuyu MP’s residence to show solidarity with the family.

Mzee Ngugi, who passed away on September 5, was widely regarded as a pillar in his community.

He is remembered for his business acumen and commitment to social development.

Preparations are underway for his final send-off, scheduled for next week.

President William Ruto is expected to lead the nation in paying tribute at the burial ceremony.

Ichung’wah, who has been hosting mourners from across the political divide, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support.

He said the visits were a testament to the respect his father commanded across the political spectrum.
