Former Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has ruled out
getting back into active politics, insisting that his children will not allow
him.
Speaking on Tuesday night, Tuju said politics will also take
a lot of his time.
He also noted that while he was in active politics, he did
not make money as all he did was spend.
“Siasa ilikuwa tu
expenditure, no income. Wakati huu nimerudi kufanya biashara and by the grace
of God ametujalia, tunashukuru na watoto wangu hawawezi kubali tena nirudi kwa
active politics, kwa ajili itachukua muda,” Tuju said on TV47.
This loosely translates to, “Politics was just an expenditure,
no income. This time I have returned to doing business and by the grace of God
he has granted us, we are grateful and my children cannot accept me returning
to active politics, because it will take time.”
The former Cabinet Secretary also responded to recent claims
that he was readying to become the secretary general of a party that will
likely be formed as a result of the unity between President William Ruto and
ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Tuju dismissed the claims as rumours insisting that there is
no chance he will take such a role.
“No. Sijatafutwa and you know Kenyans with rumours and this
is the first time I am actually hearing this. No chance.”
During the interview, Tuju also said he would turn down a
job offer from President William Ruto if one was extended to him.
Tuju was categorical that he is satisfied being out of
active politics.
“I’m very happy where I’m at the moment. I’m enjoying a
private life doing the things that I do like coming to this TV station and I’m
able to talk without worrying about what’s the position of the government or
the opposition,” he said.
“No, I won’t take it, I don’t need a job,” he added.
Tuju and Ruto had a frosty working relationship during their
time together in the Jubilee administration, where Ruto served as Deputy
President.
While Ruto has since broadened his government to include
former rivals through his working relationship with ODM leader Raila Odinga,
Tuju insists he is not looking for a position.
The former Cabinet Secretary revealed he is currently
preoccupied with managing his businesses, which employ more than 100 people,
and which he admitted had suffered during his years in politics.
"I create jobs, so I will only do things that I want to
do. I’m not looking for a job so that I get a salary. I’m not looking for a job
so that I can get a position to make deals.”
