The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has raised alarm over a fake recruitment notice circulating on social media, warning Kenyans against falling victim to misinformation and fraud.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Commission Chairperson Dr. Amani Yuda Komora said the false advert was misleading applicants by purporting to announce the recruitment of police constables and directing them to an unauthorized online link.

“The National Police Service Commission has noted with concern a fake recruitment notice circulating on social media purporting to announce the recruitment of police constables and directing applicants to an unauthorized online link,” Komora said.

The Commission clarified that no such recruitment exercise has been announced and stressed that official information on police recruitment will only be issued through established channels.

“The Commission wishes to advise the public to disregard this misinformation and clarify that any official communication on recruitment will only be issued through established channels, namely, the Commission’s official website, mainstream media, and verified social media platforms,” the statement read.

According to NPSC, plans for a legitimate recruitment exercise are underway and Kenyans will be informed in due course.

“In accordance with its Constitutional mandate, the commission notifies the public that preparations for a legitimate recruitment exercise are underway,” Komora said.

The Commission urged members of the public to remain alert and avoid being duped by individuals or groups seeking to exploit desperate job seekers.

“The Commission therefore urges members of the public to remain vigilant and ignore fraudulent notices intended to mislead and exploit unsuspecting applicants,” the chairperson warned.

The press statement, dated September 9, 2025, reiterated NPSC’s constitutional responsibility in handling human resource functions of the National Police Service, including the recruitment of officers.

By cautioning Kenyans against falling for fake adverts, the Commission is also signaling the seriousness of its recruitment processes, which have in the past attracted public scrutiny over transparency.

The statement did not provide details of the upcoming exercise but stressed that only official communication from the Commission should be trusted.

Recruitment into the National Police Service often attracts thousands of applicants across the country.

The Commission’s intervention comes at a time when online scams targeting job seekers are on the rise, raising concerns over the exploitation of unemployed youth.

NPSC reminded Kenyans that the only credible recruitment information will come from its official platform.
