The Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga has been unanimously elected as a Supernumerary Member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP).

The election took place on September 9, 2025, during the IAP's 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Singapore.

"I am humbled by this election and the responsibility that comes with it. Prosecutors play a critical role in the fair administration of justice, and this opportunity allows us to exchange experiences, embrace best practices, and discharge our mandate with integrity, professionalism, and firmness,” the DPP said in a statement on Tuesday.

The global recognition follows Ingonga's election as President of the African Association of Prosecutors (APA) during the Association's 17th Annual Conference and General Meeting in Marrakesh, Morocco, in July 2024.

It also follows his successful leadership in hosting the 23rd Commonwealth Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference (HOPAC) in Mombasa, Kenya, in July 2025.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said the historic election is a proud milestone for Kenya and the African continent, reaffirming Africa's growing influence in shaping international prosecutorial discourse.

It also underscores Kenya's steadfast commitment to active participation in global justice initiatives.

The leadership role will provide a unique platform to enhance cooperation, address emerging challenges, and strengthen prosecutorial standards across jurisdictions.

ODPP extended its gratitude to the International Association of Prosecutors for the confidence placed in Ingonga’s leadership.

The office said the move reaffirms its unwavering dedication to the rule of law, international collaboration, and the advancement of prosecutorial excellence.

“The ODPP remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the rule of law, promote international cooperation, and advance prosecutorial standards,” the statement read.

Ingonga is an advocate of the High Court and has been a senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in charge of the North Eastern region before his nomination by the President.

He holds a master of Laws from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

Ingonga als holds a Law degree from Moi University.
