Police in Kikuyu have arrested a university student in connection with the fatal stabbing of his roommate following a disagreement over cleaning duties.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Omondi Ogola said detectives have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
“We received a report from one of the security personnel at the University of Nairobi, Kikuyu Campus, that there had been an incident where one student had stabbed another,” Ogola said.
According to Ogola, the injured student was rushed to PCA Kikuyu Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
“We suspect that death was caused by a stab injury. So I am here to confirm that we took up this matter,” he added.
Police said preliminary findings indicate that an argument between the two students escalated into a violent confrontation. The suspected weapon has since been recovered.
“The suspected murder weapon was secured, and today he has been arraigned in court,” Ogola stated.
“We are seeking custodial orders so that we can further our investigation. We have yet to establish a motive for this attack. Once these investigations are complete, we will be recommending charges.”
The victim, a third-year student, was found with serious stab wounds inside their hostel room. His body is being preserved at PCA Kikuyu Hospital pending a post-mortem examination.
Police said they are working closely with the university administration and members of the community as investigations continue.
