President William Ruto has congratulated Rt. Rev. John Kiplimo Arap Lelei on his installation as the first Bishop of the newly established Catholic Diocese of Kapsabet.
Speaking during the episcopal installation ceremony at the Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex in Kapsabet, Nandi County, on Saturday, President Ruto urged the new bishop to serve the faithful with “love, dedication and wisdom,” guided by the word of God in Proverbs 3:5-6.
“We assure you of our support, goodwill and cooperation as you embark on this pastoral journey,” the President said.
The Catholic Diocese of Kapsabet, Kenya’s 28th episcopal see, was erected by Pope Leo XIV on July 10, 2025. It was carved out of the Eldoret Diocese and will encompass the Ndalat, Kaiboi, Chepterit, Ol’ Lesos, Nandi Hills, and Kobujoi deaneries.
An episcopal see is a term for a bishop's ecclesiastical jurisdiction, which is the geographical area he governs and the spiritual oversight he provides to the Christians living within it.
Rt. Rev. Lelei’s installation marks a significant milestone for the Catholic faithful in Nandi County, who now have a dedicated diocese to serve their spiritual needs.
