A section of President William Ruto’s allies from Ukambani have lashed out at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of peddling propaganda and misleading the public about the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Speaking during a boda boda empowerment event at Kinyui Stadium on Wednesday, the leaders, led by UDA National Organising Secretary and Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya, criticised Gachagua’s recent remarks in a TV interview as "disrespectful" and "out of touch."

“It is unfortunate that a person who held the office of Deputy President has resorted to propaganda and political noise instead of offering constructive engagement,” Kawaya said.

Gachagua, once Ruto’s closest ally, has recently turned into one of the most vocal critics of the Kenya Kwanza government.

In his latest interview, the DP accused the administration of failing Kenyans, claiming Ruto has lost moral authority to lead.

But Ukambani MPs say Gachagua is engaging in “political theatrics” aimed at undermining the very government he once helped build.

“Leaders should be focused on solutions, not peddling lies. Kenyans deserve truth and unity, not divisive rhetoric,” said Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda, who urged Kenyans to disregard Gachagua’s statements.

The leaders reaffirmed their unwavering support for Ruto, insisting the head of state remains committed to fulfilling his promises, particularly in the wake of economic reforms and development programmes.

They accused Gachagua of attempting to discredit Ruto’s leadership for personal political gain.

“President Ruto is focused on reviving the economy and empowering ordinary citizens. These distractions won’t derail us,” Kawaya added.

During the TV interview, Gachagua dismissed claims that his criticism of Ruto is motivated by personal vendetta or political revenge.

“My interest is good governance, not settling scores,” Gachagua said in a recent media interview.

“I want a country where hospitals have medicine, where children can go to school. Calling for the president to resign is a necessity, not a grudge.”

He maintains that he is one of the few leaders bold enough to confront the status quo and speak truth to power.
