A 21-year-old man was stabbed to death during a robbery in Githurai Kimbo, Kiambu County, in the early hours of Saturday.

The victim, identified as Harrison Njoroge, had stepped out of the bar where he worked to buy a soda for a customer after the establishment ran out of soft drinks.

Police said he was ambushed along the way by a group of five men who attacked him with a knife.

Njoroge was stabbed in the head and robbed of an unknown amount of money and personal belongings before the assailants fled on foot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officers who were alerted to the incident managed to arrest four suspects believed to be linked to the killing. The body was later taken to the mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigations continue.

Elsewhere in Ruiru, two security guards sustained serious injuries following a violent robbery at a private farm.

According to police, about ten men cut through a chain-link fence near Kamiti River and gained access to the Northlands vehicle yard.

The gang is said to have confronted the guards, assaulted them, and tied their hands and legs before stealing assorted items from the premises. A manhunt for the suspects has been launched.

In a separate incident in Kericho, police are pursuing a man who escaped from custody in dramatic fashion. The suspect, identified as Kipsang Kosgei, had been arrested on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle.

On August 23, while being escorted by an officer to dispose of waste, Kosgei jumped over a perimeter wall and fled. One police officer was injured during the chase after tripping and falling.

He was treated and discharged from hospital as officers continued the search for the escapee.
