Two suspected kidnappers are in police custody after detectives from Thika West carried out a successful rescue operation that saved two young women believed to have been abducted in Nyeri.

According to a statement shared on the official Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) X page, the operation was conducted following a tip-off from concerned members of the public who reported unusual activity in a house located in the Muguga area of Thika.

“Detectives moved swiftly and stormed the identified premises where they found two victims visibly shaken, in tears, and bearing signs of physical abuse," DCI said.

The victims were cut off from communication, with their phones having been confiscated by the suspects. A detailed search of the house led to the recovery of seven mobile phones, five Safaricom SIM cards, and three Airtel SIM cards linked to criminal activities.

The officers also identified a motor vehicle parked outside the premises.

Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to contain four kitchen knives, seven matchboxes, and suspicious items suspected to have been used in the crime.

Initial investigations revealed that the women had been kidnapped in Nyeri on Tuesday before being transported to Thika in the same vehicle.

The DCI noted that the suspects are already wanted for a similar offence in Nyeri, raising suspicions that the duo may be part of a wider criminal syndicate operating across counties.

The two suspects are currently being held by police as investigations continue, with charges expected to follow once the investigation is finalised before they are arraigned in court.
