Detectives
from both the police and the military are investigating an incident in which
the body of a Kenya Defence Forces soldier was found in his house in the Sunton
area, Nairobi.
The cause of
death of the Kenya Navy personnel is yet to be known, police said.
Neighbours
of an apartment where he stayed said they were disturbed by a bad smell
emanating from the ground floor in the Maji Mazuri area, prompting them to
break into the house on the morning of Wednesday, August 20.
They
stumbled on the decomposed body of Sergeant Ezekiel Kiprop, 33, of the Kenya
Navy, lying on the bed.
The
residents then called the police, who in turn alerted officials from the nearby
Kahawa Barracks.
Police and
officials from the Military Police said there were no visible injuries detected
on the body.
The body was
moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
The soldier
lived alone in the apartment, the neighbours said.
They told
police they had not seen him for days, and it was unusual.
Officials
said they are investigating the death. The investigations aim to establish if
the death was due to natural causes.
Such deaths
have been on the rise in the military, just like among other members of the
disciplined services.
Elsewhere in
Asumbi, Homa Bay County, a woman was found dead in her house in Kagan village.
She was
later identified as Rosemary Adhiambo, 53.
The locals
said they were disturbed by a bad smell from the house, prompting them to check
the source.
The deceased
lived alone and had not been seen for days, locals said.
The cause of
death was not immediately established.
The body was
moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations, police said.
