Detectives in Nyamira County have opened investigations into the brutal killing of a secondary school student whose body was discovered over the weekend.

The Form Three student from Ikonge Secondary School was found dead on Saturday, August 16, in Maitunya village, Sengera.

His body was lying by the roadside near a tea buying centre when it was discovered, long after he had been killed.

Police believe the boy was murdered at the scene.

The motive remains unclear, but investigators say they are following crucial leads to establish what happened and to identify those behind the attack. The body was moved to the mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem.

The Nyamira killing was among several violent incidents reported across the country over the weekend.

In Olokurto, Narok County, 39-year-old George Gioche was found dead on an open farm on Friday evening. Police said he had a stab wound to the left side of his head.

His body was taken to the mortuary as investigations continue. No arrests have been made.

Elsewhere, in Mbitini, Kitui County, a 42-year-old man died after being attacked during a fight. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Police confirmed a suspect has since been arrested and is expected to face charges. The motive of the assault is still under probe.

In Diani, Kwale County, an 89-year-old Swiss national, identified as Bucher Hermann Willi, was found dead in his hotel room on August 15.

He had been staying with a partner who realised he had not woken up. His body was taken to the mortuary for autopsy to establish the cause of death.

Meanwhile, in Embali, Vihiga County, a 45-year-old man was lynched by a mob over claims of attempted theft.

Police said the deceased was in the company of three other suspects who allegedly tried to break into a house. The others managed to escape.

Officers condemned the lynching, urging members of the public to hand over suspects to the authorities instead of taking the law into their own hands.

Police say investigations into all the incidents are ongoing.
