Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has said that President William Ruto deserves a second term.
Speaker Wetang’ula said that this is due to his development record across the country and efforts to stabilize the economy.
Speaking on Sunday when he attended a Church Service at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Kapsabet, he said Ruto has achieved milestones since he assumed office.
“I used the occasion to rally support for President William Ruto’s second term, citing milestones such as increased university funding, Universal Health Care, affordable housing projects, and bold steps to stabilize the economy,” Wetang’ula said in a statement on X after the service.
“Father Japhet Machichim urged the faithful to choose what is right over what is convenient.”
The service was followed by a fundraiser to lay the foundation for the new Diocese of Kapsabet, recently carved from the Diocese of Eldoret.
The Speaker was accompanied by the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, Bungoma Senator David Wakoli, and several MPs.
“As Proverbs 14:34 reminds us: ‘Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.”
Wetang’ula has been drumming up support for President Ruto in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Ruto asked for ample time during his tenure to fulfill the development goals he had promised Kenyans.
The president dismissed ‘one term’ talks, saying he needs to finish his two terms to deliver to Kenyans.
A section of opposition politicians have since sustained calls for his removal from office after his first term lapses in 2027.
The phrase “one-term" has gained traction in political discourse, referring to increasing discussions and speculation about whether President Ruto will seek a second term or step down after his first.
“I hear you are saying two terms, but listen, the two terms are for doing developments. They are for doing affordable housing, building markets, planning for education, to plan on the Social Health Authority so that everyone receives healthcare, for Kenya to move forward,” he said.
Ruto has on several occasions called for a cease on term limit talks, calling on leaders and Kenyans to focus on development.
This is even as leaders allied to the President have continuously assured Kenyans that they will rally voters to grant Auto another term.
