
Detectives are investigating an incident in which a 53-year-old man was found dead after a suspected murder in Wangige, Kiambu County.
The body of Patrick Njoroge Waweru was discovered at the local shopping centre long after his murder.
His wife told police he left home for chores in the area on August 10 but failed to return home as anticipated.
On Monday morning, a neighbour who saw the body called the wife, breaking the sad news. She rushed there and confirmed the identity.
Police said the body had visible bruises on the back, chest and both hands.
The motive of the murder is, however, yet to be known. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations, police said.
In Kiwara, Kieni, Nyeri County, police said they are investigating a murder in an incident where a man was attacked and killed by a mob.
The man was earlier accused of assaulting a vendor and injuring him in an altercation on the Monday, August 11.
It was then that the mob descended on the said assailant, killing him using stones and clubs.
Police visited the scene and picked up the body to the mortuary pending autopsy, and announced they were looking for the suspects behind the murder.
Meanwhile, police in Kilungu, Makueni County, are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a ditch.
Police said Raphael Kimonyi, 78, was found lying lifeless in a ditch along Nunguni-Kilome road at Kithembe location, Kauti sub-location, Kyakitundumo village.
Preliminary investigation shows that he left his home at around 11 am on August 10 2025, but didn't come back. The body was discovered the following day and moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.
Murder cases have been on the rise amid efforts by authorities to solve them. Police say up to eight cases of murder are reported daily at an alarming rate.
Some of the incidents are pending unsolved, while others are in courts, police say.
A special homicide
team has been formed at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to focus on
the incidents, with plans to devolve the unit operations.
Police say some of the murder incidents are linked to land disputes, while others are connected to robberies that go bad.
