President William Ruto on Tuesday displayed his kitchen skills after he fried fish at Homa Bay Beach in the presence of other leaders.
Ruto is in Homa Bay ahead of this year’s Devolution Conference, themed ‘For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice.’
The President is expected to officially open the four-day event on Wednesday.
Ruto was seen at the Homa Beach frying fish as he was surrounded by other leaders who cheered him on.
With two cooking pots filled with cooking oil placed on a jiko, the President took the fish one by one, smeared salt on them and carefully placed them in the heated oil.
He asked, “Wakae pamoja” (Should they be together), he said as he placed the second fish in the pot.
The President was seen checking out the fish to see if they were ready as he conversed with some women leaders who accompanied him.
Ruto was heard saying ‘Erokamano’ Dholuo word meaning thank you, after he was complimented on his skills.
The leaders said, “Today we are eating fish cooked by you”, and clapped for the President.
He fried about five fish and left, saying he would be back when they were ready.
The conference, hosted at Homa Bay High School, began with pre-conference activities on Tuesday, including boat races on Lake Victoria, wrestling, and the traditional East African board game Ajua.
The sub-theme for this year’s meeting is “Re-engineering County Governments to Accelerate Development and Close the Socio-Economic Divide.”
