The State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications has invited applications from suitably qualified serving officers to fill 38 internal vacancies.

In an announcement dated August 6, 2025, Principal Secretary Stephen Isaboke said the recruitment drive targets 27 Principal Information Officers and 11 Principal Information Assistants, aimed at strengthening the department’s capacity in public communication, content management, and information services.

According to the notice, the vacancies are open only to serving officers in the Public Service who meet the set academic, professional, and experiential qualifications.

"Interested and qualified persons are requested to make their applications by completing one (1) application Form PSC 2 (Revised 2016). The form may be downloaded from the Public Service Commission website www.publicservice.go.ke," the notice reads.

The applications should then be submitted to the Principal Secretary by post or hand delivery at Teleposta Towers, Nairobi, no later than August 27, 2025.

Applicants are required to provide all requested details truthfully, attach certified copies of academic and professional certificates obtained before the closure date, and refrain from attaching original documents.

During interviews, shortlisted candidates will need to produce originals of their identification, certificates, and transcripts.

The department reaffirmed its commitment to fair competition, merit, and representation of Kenya’s diverse communities, urging persons with disabilities, marginalised groups, and minorities to apply.

The Principal Information Officer positions, graded CSG 8, offer a salary scale of Sh52,330 to Sh96,130 per month, house allowance of Sh35,000, commuter allowance of Sh8,000, leave allowance of Sh6,000 per year, 30 annual leave days, medical cover, and permanent and pensionable terms.

Applicants must have served as Senior Information Officers for at least three years, hold a degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, or Social Sciences with a postgraduate diploma in communication-related fields, and possess senior management training and computer application certification.

"Duties include managing news, information, and features; coordinating information services; conducting research and preparing reports; overseeing content for the Kenya News Agency website and information resource centres; handling complex communication assignments; developing departmental work plans and standards; and supervising staff and resources," reads part of the notice.

The Principal Information Assistant roles, also graded CSG 8 with identical salaries and benefits, require candidates to have served as Senior Information Assistants for at least three years.

Interested applicants are also required to hold a diploma in mass communication-related fields, have completed a management course of at least four weeks, and demonstrate strong communication skills, computer literacy, and professional competence.

Their duties mirror those of the Principal Information Officers, including managing and coordinating news services, conducting information research, preparing reports, uploading content to the KNA website, handling complex assignments, developing work plans and strategies, and supervising staff and resources.
