Speaking separately at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH), Kisii Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo condoled with the bereaved families and lauded the KTRH staff for responding swiftly and attending to the injured individuals.

Obebo expressed concern over the operations of the small-scale traders at the Daraja Mbili market along the Kisii-Migori highway, saying the area should be considered a black spot.

"If this incident would have occurred on a market day, it would have been disastrous, and that is why we are working with Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to find a lasting solution," noted the Deputy Governor.

The bodies of the deceased have since been moved to the KTRH morgue.
