Former President William Ruto’s advisor and ex-Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has claimed that the country is not heading in the right direction, a concern he says informed his decision to resign from government.

Speaking during the funeral of the late senior chief Eliud Karanja in Dagoretti South, Kuria urged leaders to put the interests of the nation above personal or political ambition.

“I want to appeal to our leaders, especially those who have been around for some time, let us not destroy our country,” he said.

“This country belongs to the younger generation. We could have destroyed it in 1992 or even 1997, but we didn’t. Let us not be the ones to bring it down now. Let us leave it intact for our children, just as it was left to us. If they choose to destroy it later, that will be on them.”

Kuria said the current state of affairs calls for reflection and intervention by religious leaders, warning that the nation may have angered God.

“Tuchunge sana kwa sababu tumemkasirisha Mungu (We should be very careful because we have angered God),” he remarked.

Kuria did not, however, specify the issues to back his claim on why he felt the country was not moving in right direction.

He further appealed to leaders from across the political divide and Kenyans at large to shun their political differences and stand for what is the best for the nation.

“To all leaders and Kenyans, regardless of your political leaning or whether you serve for one term or two, let us stand for Kenya’s long-term good,” he said.

The late Karanja, who was being laid to rest, is the father of the Nairobi City County Assembly Minority Leader.

Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, who was present, delivered President William Ruto’s condolence message.
